We finally announced the long awaiting gathering event for Indonesian photographers and videographers. This is the first time for Indonesian videographers. And this is the second time for Indonesian wedding photographers. Back in last year, we only did it in 2 hours format with 4 speakers from two companies. Now, we try to change the format to serve for more variety in the topics and different point of views with a longer period format. Just check out the speakers who are willing to share their thoughts and experiences in this event. We even managed to encourage one of the successful Indonesian wedding photographers in US, Oscar Setiawan from S1 Photography to participate in this event via Live conference. It’s something not to miss for Indonesian wedding professionals.

Check out here for more details. If you are interested and you haven’t been part of Indonesian WSP group, please join here.

It’s definitely an interesting and quite a tiring experience for me to arrange such an event like this. It’s never been easy to try to steal them [the speakers] away from their busy schedule to share their experiences. So I am calling out to most of Indonesian wedding professionals to participate if you wish to see this event to be run annually. Tell your friends and your wedding professionals. Help us to spread the words, help the industry!

Btw, have you seen our little new logo?

I just came back from a lot of meetings and discussion with WSP educators for this July’s events, WSP board meeting and also with members of Indonesian WPG. It’s definitely a tiring day but I am happy finally to sit down with them in person and start thinking about the future together.

In the morning, this was the first ever time we, as the educators in this July’s workshop, finally sat together and discussed what we wanted to teach in the workshop.

Deni Kosasih of Freyja Photography revealed some interesting idea to teach and help others to find their own style. This topics is definitely difficult to teach as creating own style requires some endurance, patience and a lot of practice. I hope he can come up some inspiring method to help others in this matter.

Tito and Sigit of The Upper Most will definitely have interesting topics to say about MOMENT, it’s a big words in Indonesian Wedding. I personally can’t wait to hear their experience and mental preparation to shoot every wedding in such unique way at the place like Indonesian wedding culture.

The team from WIMO cinematography will reveal how they come out idea of shooting a cinematography in weddings. It’ll be exciting to see how they convince an almost full of photographers in shooting videography. It’ll be such an education to hear this.

And I, Wiki Lee, will talk what I do at my best to get the best out of my clients’ wedding story and how I educate the customers to shoot what I want for their own benefits. I don’t see that I am a super talented photographer but I am living to the world that all of my clients rely on their wedding story entirely with what I see on the day. I will share my experiences and advices to convince my clients to book me because of what I do and my vision.

So far, it just covers our two days event.

There will be one more jam-packed action day to shoot in unfamiliar conditions to learn to shoot what we see to create a story.

This 4 days event will be closed by the gathering/seminar/sharing event that what I hope that most of WSP – Indonesia can participate. The workshop speakers will join some plus additional speakers to share what our thought of the future Indonesian wedding photography and videography. I hope this can be such an inspiring event for Indonesian to work together to reach a higher goal.

I still can’t believe that we finally made the commitment to share for other’s benefit. I hope everyone will have wonderful time of teaching.

Also thank you for everyone who has faith on us by booking at the early bird stage. We still have a few spaces available for the workshop, please send your interest to workshop [@] wikischoolpedia.com

We will open the seminar’s registration soon. Stay tuned!

In the past weeks, I have been thinking about what can be improved by most Indonesian photographers in relation to the preparation of my upcoming workshop in Indonesia.

I have seen some works of the established wedding photographers in Indonesia. I have witnessed and heard a lot of stories about how wedding photographers in Indonesia work. I heard a lot of complaints how most couples in Indonesia don’t know how to treat photographers as an artist, rather photographer is treated as just another vendor.

I also sense that most of couples in Indonesia are more product oriented (they are more interested in looking at how the album will be designed), as most of wedding albums emphasized more in the design rather than the photo alone. No wonder, most wedding photographers in Indonesia focuses more in investing creatively on their products (such as album and packaging).

In this upcoming workshop, I’ll cover how client education process takes an important role in producing photography results. The process helps me to shoot what I want rather than what they (the couples) want. It is an art to be able to do that.

For everyone who attended my previous gathering with other wedding photographers in Jakarta last June, they must be familiar with my term “We are photographer, not designer”. By this client education process, I educate my clients to appreciate my photo, not how good I am in designing my album. If you are good in designing album, it’s your plus but your photo is still the one that makes you proud to be a wedding photographer.

Here is the example of how client education worked for me. I shot this photo in an unattractive and quite a busy alley with passing motorcycle and bajaj (traditional mode of transport) in West Jakarta. But I made my couple believed whatever I asked them to do, they stepped in without hesitation. And the result was something they are proud of.

As a wedding photographer we have a lot of tools to do with such as cameras, lenses, flash lights, etc. Let’s talk about one of them, lenses. There are aperture range, lens coat quality, focal length, focus range, etc. Most people choose a lens to buy by their need of aperture and focal length. As a sample: 85mm lens f/1.8, mostly people use it for a portrait/ medium shot with a shallow dof.

By knowing your tools, you can see something in different perspective, you can maximize the advantage and also you can push your creativity. Below is a photo sample for using 85mm lens f/1.8 in a wide dimension.

On this case, it doesn’t mean you can not make a wide photo, if you’re using a 85mm lens f/1.8.

For us, using a medium lens for a wide photo will give a different perspective and dimension, wide photo with no distortion and also give a feel ‘not just like another wide photo’ .

Mastering your tools will be one of our topic on ‘find out the reason workshop’. Let’s talk about it from A to Z! See you guys!
