It’s a couple weeks too late for this blog. The final day of our 4-days event in Jakarta was wrapped up with such a huge reception that we received on that day.

We started by I, Wiki Lee, opened the seminar/gathering with the right expectation (as according to many sources, it could be the first seminar of wedding photography or videography they attended). So I needed to ensure they all started with the right mind set. I also shared what is WSP? There was one good question that asked “what is WSP mission and vision?”. My simple answer is that I want Asian people to stand up, so maybe in the future Asian can also be the standard for the world to see the good wedding photography or videography. We believe it’s not happening yet.

Then the first speaker was Ivan Mario of Axioo. Most of the participants already heard the great deals of Ivan’s bubbly personality. Ivan’s topic was to encourage photographers to be “Stronger, bolder, better”. He shared his experiences in making the connection with the couples. By the end of the workshop so many participants thought Ivan’s tips to connect with clients were so fresh for them to try on.

The second speaker was Oscar Setiawan of S1 Photography. The session was a LIVE web conference from Chicago, US. It really took a big effort for Oscar to speak as he’s speaking at 1am on his time. He shared the key ingredient to most of his works is to master his flashes. He showed the flashes setting that he used in order to produce his award winning photos. It was surreal by some of the participants to see that Oscar was still able to produce something natural with the use of multiple flashes in one frame. Even one participant confessed to me that he hated the use of flash before, now he was inspired to learn it.

The third speaker was Deni Kosasih of Freyja Photography. His session was a bit brief as he tried to provide any question related to wedding photography in Indonesia.

The fourth speaker was Jeff O’neal of Poetih Photography. He shared a short version of the journey of how he started his own wedding photography and how he run the business. He also encouraged others to find the inspirations in order to find style. He said that most of his works now was because he was inspired by two of his role models.

The fifth speaker was Kuswendy, Dimar and Norman of WIMO. There were several participants who waited for their turn, as they were the only videographers who had the opportunity to share. They talked about the new wave of cinematography in Indonesia. They showed how bright prospect of the wedding cinematography in Indonesia. They certainly ended their session with the high notes as I heard from the participants would book them for their wedding :D

The last speaker was our regular educator, Tito and Sigit from THEUPPERMOST. But this time, they didn’t deliver their regular sharing in technique and skills. Instead, they wished the attendees’ participation to answer the question “Do we need an association?”. In this talk, they also shared why they started Indonesian WPG, and why & what WSP and Indonesian WPG try to do together. My opinion about this talk was a great choice to sum up the success of this 4-days event as I seriously don’t know how many people hugged me and thanked how much they looked forward with the future of Indonesian Wedding photography and videography (It’s the main topic of the day 4 event/seminar).

In this opportunity, I would like to thank every single of the contributions we received on this 4-days event. It was a marvelous effort to make this things to happen. Special thanks to POP Photo n Prints to sponsor this event by providing some memento to remember that this was the day we had a great time hanging out and thinking about future. Here are some of photos produced by the team.

Also, not to forget to thanks Adiwarna from After Effect Photography who contributed to shoot behind the scenes for this 4-days events. Please don’t miss out the coverage for Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3. Here are some of the behind the scene for Day 4.

Thank you for everyone who attended the events. I see you all next year!

Please refer to full coverage of Day 3 report.

There were 4 groups that participate on the day 3 event. I couldn’t believe the result from this event was stunning. The slideshow was the same day edit that must submit before the end of day. So it’s not surprising that most of the photos were unedited. However, they are already stunning. I am so proud of all the attempts. Here are those 4 slideshows.

Group 1 (Mentor: Tito Rikardo)

Group 2 (Mentor: Wiki Lee)

Group 3 (Mentor: Sigit Prasetio)

Group 4 (Mentor: Deni Kosasih)

The previous two days was a full of theories. Today was the practice time. It was nothing like a wedding photography workshop that normally provided a couple to be model. The practice time we had in our workshop was to introduce for the wedding photographers to learn in a way about street photography style to tell the story. They needed to produce a same day edit slideshow to submit to be presented tomorrow (day 4). It was just a practice for photographers to shoot out of the box.

It was challenging at first to get together on one spot as most of participants are from outside Jakarta. Most of people didn’t know where the location we pointed out for this practical session.

We spent 3 hours in shooting. After that, we straightaway edited the works (of course after lunch break).

The results are seriously very very good especially they are new in street photography. I am looking forward featuring on this blog. Of course they will be premiered tomorrow among other attendants who did not come to the first three days’ event.

I am just back from the day 2.

I should say I am very pleased with the outcome of the overall from these two days workshop.

Today, Tito and Sigit from THEUPPERMOST showed their secret way of how to structure their shots to get award winning shots from the boring or not-so-interested wedding shots. They believe there was a lot of hard work required to get what they want. They believe to be the best was their only reason of working so hard. Their teaching time was full packed with a lot of insights. Most of participants had almost no break at all. The teaching session still ended up 1/2 hours more than what it should be.

The next speaker after them was me, Wiki Lee, with my usual reliable assistant Ilona Lee to speak about Client Education. I showed how I drove my clients to allow me to shoot what I believe. I gave all reasons of why client education was darn important for the photographers and the clients. Client education can also be a marketing tool. It could be the easiest talk I have ever done because all the information were in my blood. This was what I was made for :D . I showed the real examples that worked for me.

In the end of the day, we could tell every participant were very tired. It’s been a tough day to listen today’s context with almost no rest within 9 hours (we finished one hour late). But I guess everyone was happy of what they learned and listened.

Let’s bring on the day no 3.

Jul
13

It’s a super hectic week for me last week after having a quick speak amongst Malaysian photographers, attended Mayad workshop where I got the opportunity networking with the best Asian wedding cinematographers, and also met great Singapore photographers especially from WPN. It’s been a blessed week.

We just completed our first day of WSP 4-days event in Jakarta, Indonesia. It’s a jam-packed workshop featuring Deni Kosasih from Freyja Photography and the WIMO team.

Deni who had studied photography shared his inspiration of how he built and discovered his style. He showed how National Geographic photography changed the way he sees things in the wedding photography. He also shared some tips of what the participants can do to discover their own style. Let’s not share all of them, I hope :D

On the other hand, Kuswendy and the gank from WIMO shared how they turned around their company to introduced the new way of wedding cinematography in the market like Indonesia. They showed their tricks of how to edit their video in storytelling way. Even though most of the participants are photographers, however somehow they could relate to the making of storytelling in video in a similar way to create an album or slideshow.

We definitely can’t wait for day 2. It’s definitely a great participation from all the attendees who placed their full attention to the teachings.

See you guys tomorrow. Here are some photos of behind the scenes taken by Adiwarna from After Effect Photography.
